Clerk of Course to exclude competitors not complying with Standing Regulation 17 |
|
| Competitors are reminded of Standing Regulation 17 which includes the statement: Yellow Flag - Waved : The Yellow Flag waved is a direct instruction to the rider to Slow Down and Prepare to stop, Overtaking is Forbidden Should a rider inadvertently gain a position (ie. A preceding rider slows at a faster rate), once it is safe to do so, (s)he should return to the original position and may raise his/her hand to indicate same.
As of forthwith, competitors reported as not complying with this standing regulation to the Clerk of Course may be excluded from the event.

Drysdale stands down as Ulster Centre Secretary |
|
Alan Drysdale has stood down as Secretary of the MCUI (Ulster Centre) with immediate effect to concentrate on his role as Chair of the 2&4 Wheels Motorsports Steering Group.
Steve Freeburn, who is currently Assistant Secretary of the Ulster Centre, has been appointed as ‘Acting Secretary’. Steve recently played a pivotal role in the set up of the Irish Motorcycle Photographers Association (IMPA), which is now an affiliate of the Ulster Centre. Prior to his appointment as Assistant Secretary, Steve was a delegate to the Ulster Centre for the Belfast and District Motor Club.
Announcing the changes, Chris Blair, Ulster Centre Chairman explained, “Alan returned to the Secretary’s position in January 2007 - a position he previously held in the 1980’s – when we were having difficulty finding someone to take on the role. He made it clear from the outset that his return was very much a short-term arrangement and had already flagged his intention to stand down at our AGM in November.
“Alan has now decided he needs to stand down immediately as he has overall responsibility for the delivery of a number of new initiatives which 2&4 WMSG will now undertake over the next couple of years. Alan concluded he would have a conflict of interest if he were to remain as Secretary of the Ulster Centre while also having responsibility for the delivery of the 2&4 programme.
”We are sorry to lose Alan, but are confident that the Ulster Centre will continue to benefit from his skills and expertise with his work at 2&4. We wish Alan all the best for the future and sincerely thank him for his efforts for the Centre over the past two years. Steve Freeburn has been working closely with Alan over the past few months and I am confident that there will be a smooth transition of duties with minimal impact on our members”.

Maximum Capacity for Super Twin Machines |
|
A query has been raised with me as to the maximum permitted capacity for a machine in the Super Twins class in the Irish and Ulster Road Race and Short Circuit Championships.
The maximum capacity of a machine in the Super Twins class is 650cc. A Supplementary Regulation will also be issued at 'Rider Sign-on' by the Motor Cycle Road Racing Club of Ireland and the Killinchy Club for their event on 10th/11th April and the Belfast and District club for their event on 13th April to further clarify this matter.
Please note that in accordance with the General Competition Rules the promoters of any event reserve the right to measure the capacity of any machine. Also the cost of the rebuilding any machine so measured rests with the entrant even if the machine is found to be within the capacity limit for the class.

Ulster Centre appoints Six Riders as Rider Liaison Officers |
|
The Ulster Centre, Tarmac Committee, has appointed six riders as ‘Rider Liaison Officers’ for 2009.
The six riders appointed are:
- Norman Dunbar,
- from Portglenone, who competes mainly in the Senior Clubmans class at short circuit events. Norman has also acted as a sponsor at short circuit events and has some very positive ideas for the improvement of Clubman’s racing.
- Ryan Farquhar,
- the multiple Irish Road Race Champion from Killyman near Dungannon. Ryan is well versed in Ulster Centre matters having previously been a delegate of the Dungannon club and a member of the Roads Inspection Committee.
- Darren Gilpin,
- from Galgorm, Ballymena who has played an instrumental role in the development of the new Super twins Championship at both Road Race and Short Circuit events.
- Kirk Jamison,
- from Newtownards, who led the ‘ISB riders’ initiative in 2008 to improve awareness of the Irish Superbike Short Circuit Championship. Kirk has also been a regular contributor of ideas to the Centre and pressed hard for the return of the Ulster Centre Short Circuit championships in 2009.
- James McCann,
- from Ballymoney, a relative newcomer to the sport who has quickly moved up through the Support Classes into the Senior Classes at Road Races.
- Baylon McCaughey,
- from Cookstown. A keen supporter of riders in Clubmans Racing and the Support Classes at Road Races, Baylon still has the occasional race outing himself. He also finds time to contribute to the Co Tyrone press and run his own website on Irish racing.
Commenting on the appointment of the riders, Ivan Davidson, Convenor and Press Officer for the Ulster Centre Tarmac Committee said,
“The appointment of the six riders to act as liaison officers was an idea suggested during a recent meeting with the riders who responded to a questionnaire we issued last year to seek ideas to develop the sport.
“Hopefully, their appointment will help to bridge the gap that competitors perceive to exist between them and Senior Centre Officials. We are confident that by working together we will be able to effect major improvements in our sport over the next few years”.
