James Cowton

Very sadly we learned on the 12th July James Cowton died from injuries sustained in a four-rider accident during the Southern 100 races at the Isle of Man. It was also reported that Ivan Linton had been critically injured and Jamie Coward and Mickey Evans had sustained shoulder, leg and arm injuries. Thankfully on the 13th we were informed Ivan has been flown to Liverpool Hospital where he is receiving treatment for a leg injury and both Jamie and Mickey have been discharged from Nobles Hospital - IoM.   The Ulster Centre wishes to pass on sincere sympathy to James' family at this very difficult time and our best wishes to all those injured for a good and speedy recovery.

Enniskillen Road Races restored after 66 years !

For the first time since 1952, thousands of racing fans have enjoyed fast and fabulous Road racing in Co Fermanagh. Derek McGee gained a top lap speed of 104.165 mph around a new 3 mile course at Arney, close to Ennikillen.

It was a racing masterclass by Derek McGee who scored no fewer than five wins - two Superbike including the Feature Race in Memory of Richard Britton; two in the Supersport 600 class and finishing with an impressive top spot in the Supertwins race. In each of these races, Adam McLean took the runner up place. Darryl Anderson had the honour of winning the first race of the day, the Junior Support class with Noel Smyth and Robert Cairns 2nd and 3rd respectively. Good to see Darren Keys from Lisburn achieving first place in the Senior Support class with Stephen McKeown and Steven Clarke sharing the podium in 2nd and 3rd place. In the Junior Classic races, Brian Mateer won the 250cc class and Barry Davidson took the honours in the 350cc class. The big classic's 1000cc class was won by Richard Ford with Barry Davidson getting a second victory in the 500ccc Class. The Moto 3 class winner was Kevin Fitzpatrick with Nigel Moore and Sam Dunlop taking 2nd and 3rd. John McAllister (MCUI(UC) Chairman) won the 250GP class. The Lightweight Supersport 400cc class was won by Paul Gartland with Enda Trearty in 2nd and Aaron Boyd 3rd. Well done to everyone for creating such a good day but definitely challenging for all the competitors in such scorching weather! Click Here for comprehensive listing of results.
